A very warm welcome to our new Diploma trainees and to the beginning of your psychodynamic counselling training. We are equally delighted to welcome all of you who are embarking on the Certificate in Counselling to HCC and look forward to supporting you throughout this important first step in your training journey.
The Certificate in Counselling Skills is an opportunity to learn and practice skills that can be valuable in all areas of your life, not only in the counselling room. We also hope that the course will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding of counselling and make an informed choice about your future path, including which therapeutic modality may be right for you. We hope you find the experience both stimulating and rewarding, and that it provides a strong foundation for whatever you choose to do next.
For those of you embarking on the Diploma training, over the coming months, you will be introduced to new ideas and ways of thinking, but you will also be asked to reflect on yourselves and the ways in which you understand others. Psychodynamic training is not only an academic or professional journey; it is also a deeply personal one.
There may be times when the training feels exciting and inspiring, at others it may feel challenging or unsettling. This is often an important part of the process. You will not be expected to have all the answers and learning to sit with uncertainty and to think together is an integral part of becoming a counsellor.
You have each arrived here with your own experiences, perspectives and reasons for wanting to undertake this training. Over the coming years, you will bring these together with the knowledge, skills and clinical experience you develop, gradually finding your own way of becoming a counsellor.
