The first meeting between a client and a psychodynamic counsellor may be one of the most significant occasions in the client’s life. This one-day workshop aims to set out how such a meeting is conducted, the information to be gathered and what happens next.
Workshop Outcomes
- A psychodynamic formulation (a preliminary hypothesis/conceptualisation)
- The gathering of information
- The need for empathy
- Setting out the parameters of the initial interview, e.g., time, cost, referring on
- Transference and counter-transference
- Links and trial interpretations
- Is this person suitable for psychodynamic counselling?
- How is this done at Highgate Counselling Centre (HCC)?
- CORE risk assessment
- Referral network
Norman Mintz
Norman is a psychodynamic counsellor and a member of the BACP. Since qualifying in 2007, he has worked in private practice and at HCC.
He has conducted initial assessments at HCC since 2008.
This workshop has now taken place.
