The BACP Ethical Framework Working with Ethical Dilemmas

The BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2018) creates a shared structure within which we all work but with the flexibility to respond to the needs of different contexts and client groups. This workshop is a mandatory introduction to the BACP Ethical Framework and working with ethical dilemmas as required by the BACP for their accredited courses. The workshop is designed to briefly explore the BACP Ethical Framework.

Workshop Content

Brief introduction and aims/rationale for the workshop.
  • Introduction to the BACP Ethical Framework: Brief overview of the various sections.
  • Focus on the purpose of the framework within clinical practice.
Group work:
  • The BACP ethical principles to aid memory recall.
  • Overview of the personal moral qualities contained within the framework to promote self-awareness and personal development.

Break (15 mins)

Ethical dilemmas and a dilemma for small groups to work with.

Plenary session/end.

Rischenda Poulson

Rischenda works as a private consultative psychotherapist and as a locum within the NHS. Alongside her clinical work, she lectures in psychotherapy to postgraduate level and runs a range of mental health workshops and seminars in corporate settings. She has worked as a group psychotherapist at the Priory Hospital, running mixed group sessions.

She also has many years’ experience of working within palliative care, providing psychological support to patients and carers through treatment, terminal illness and bereavement. She has delivered a series of training workshops within the NHS, covering the impact of long-term health physical health conditions upon psychological wellbeing.
