Training Open Day:

You are invited to join our online Open Day for the Certificate in Counselling. This session offers an opportunity to learn more about the course, meet the training team, and explore whether this training feels right for you.

The Open Day will take place on Saturday, 7th March, from 1 pm to 3 pm. Our aim is to welcome as many people as possible, and we recognise that this time may not suit everyone. If you are interested in attending but can’t join us at this time, please get in touch.

We are happy to arrange alternative online sessions to fit around your availability.

The Open Day includes:
  • An introduction to the Certificate in Counselling

  • Information about the course structure, learning experience and application process

  • Time for questions and conversation with members of the training team

About the course

This is a part-time course, providing 120 guided learning hours.

The course is held on Tuesday evenings running from 6.30pm to 10pm. There is also one Saturday workshop scheduled into the training.

We deliver a face-to-face training and an online training using the Zoom platform, which follow the same curriculum.

Successful completion of this level 3 equivalent course or a similar training is mandatory for entry onto our Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, which is accredited by the BACP.

The Certificate course is delivered in 3 modules across 3 terms of 11 weeks duration, each including the following elements:
  • theory lectures and discussion.
  • personal/professional development activities.
  • skills practice sessions
Broadly, the content is as follows:
  • Module 1 focuses on developing your understanding of counselling including what is counselling? How does counselling differ to other forms of helping? Some of the key skills required to become a counsellor.
  • Module 2 provides an overview of some of the key contributors in the field of basic human development,including Erikson, Freud and Maslow.
  • Module 3 provides an overview of some common therapy models including Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, CBT, Intercultural and Attachment theory. Clinical supervision is also covered.
